Pregnant?

The other day my friend Caroline had a comment on her blog about how it is better to be told that you have hairy arms than asked if you are pregnant when you aren't. I thought to myself while reading it, "Hmmm...luckily no one has ever asked me that."

Sure enough, karma or irony or something came to haunt me the very next morning.

I was at a Saturday morning oral pathology/surgery conference. One of the professors introduced me to another woman by saying, "Erin, have you met ____? Two expectant mothers, how wonderful!"

I said, "Uh, excuse me, me? Do you think/did you hear I'm pregnant? I didn't know that myself!"

I really don't know where that came from. I am preferring to think that someone told him mistakenly or he misunderstood or something.

I have always had a poochy tummy, but I hope it isn't THAT poochy!

That's so sad! FYI, I don't think you look pregnant, so that guy must have mistaken you for someone else or something.

That's hilarious and horrible! There's no way you look pregnant. Maybe he heard you had fainted before, and figured you must be pregnant. Who knows what goes through some people's heads. There's no way you look preggo, you're tiny!

Whoa really? I think we might be on to something... My next post will be about winning a million dollars. Tell me when you actually win it and then we can split it, 50-50.

But seriously, you = no pooch. You are one of those concave type people.

I have been asked that on several occasions. One man even mentioned it was because I was looking bigger in the belly. Others have said I just look pregnant--you know, the way a woman's face looks when she is. And anytime I get sick, it must always be because I have a bun in the oven.

You definitely don't look pregnant (at least you didn't the last time I saw you and I doubt anything has changed).

Even when you are pregnant someday, you still might be sensitive to the comments. Just after I found out I was pregnant with Thomas (1 or 2 weeks along), an old woman at church who had just met me asked me if I was pregnant. Though the answer was yes, not enough time had elapsed for my belly to look enlarged so I was a little offended. I also didn't know how to respond because I didn't want to lie, but I also didn't want to confirm it so early on. At least you were able to set this person straight!

It's just because you fainted! You do not have a baby bump, or any bump.
